YEAR 7-10 DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES  RESOURCES

Year 7-10 resource using MIT App Inventor
This resource is suitable for year 7-10 students, depending on their prior skills.  It uses MIT App Inventor to let you write programs on your phone.  It is capable of producing simple programs through to major apps.  You write programs on your computer and can immediately view them on your phone.  It works with Android, IOS (Apple) and there is an emulator if you can’t use your phone.

Year 8-11 resource using Kittenblock to program shields  (Available now)

This resource is suitable for year 8-11 students, depending on their prior skills. It follows on really well from our Scratch resource.   It is not tied to any NZQA standardKitten block is a free modified version of Scratch that adds blocks and libraries for the Arduino.  The resource is based on using shields that plug into the top of the Arduino board.  The shield can be purchased from https://www.keyestudio.com/collections/expansion-board-372 but there are cheaper versions on Aliexpress.

Year 9 resource using BBC Micro:Bit

This resource teaches Year 9 students how to program the BBC Micro:Bit Computer.  Micro:Bit is an small computer with a number of built in features, including a matrix of LED, switches, sensors and connectors to expand what they do.  They are simple to program and a great introduction to electronics and programming

Year 10 Resource creating games using Scratch or Kittenblock

This resource teaches students how to make numerous games using scratch or kittenblock, then assesses what they have learnt as they make their own game.  Kittenblock is simply Scratch that has been enhanced and is free to install.
